Prerequisites

Quest requirements before you can start Constellations.

Story Quest Requirements

Before Jade Shadows: Constellations appears in your quest log, you must complete The New War and the preceding Jade Shadows quest. These requirements are hard gates: the game checks quest completion flags at account level, not per platform, so cross-save players cannot bypass prerequisites by switching devices. The New War ensures your Operator and Drifter states are synchronized for cutscenes involving Hunhow and the broader Sentient conflict. Jade Shadows reintroduces narrative threads about fractured loyalties that Constellations continues directly.

If you completed The New War years ago but skipped optional dialogue, you remain eligible. Replaying is not required unless you manually reset quest progress through support—a rare choice. Players mid-progress in Jade Shadows must finish that quest entirely; partial stages do not unlock Constellations markers. Check your codex quest tab for Jade Shadows with a completed checkmark before expecting Update 43 content.

Mastery Rank is not a direct gate for starting Constellations, but Uranus Proxima enemies scale with Railjack mission tiers. Under-leveled weapons struggle in Aid boss missions even if the quest itself allows entry. Aim for mid-game gear minimum: modded primaries, a reliable movement ability, and at least one ranked defensive mod setup.

Codex and Navigation Access

After prerequisites are met, the Constellations quest appears in the codex and through inbox messaging from Ordis or Lotus depending on your progress branch. Codex access matters because several tutorial steps reference codex entries for constellation mechanics and cooking puzzle ingredients. If your codex was disabled due to spoiler settings or new-player simplified UI, re-enable full codex prompts in settings before starting.

Navigation unlocks include Uranus Proxima nodes only after specific quest beats—not at quest acceptance. Expect a structured progression: ground missions first, then Railjack segments, then return to Pontis Tower hub interactions. The star chart displays locked nodes with tooltip text indicating which quest objective unlocks them. This prevents fresh accounts from joining public Railjack groups for rewards they cannot yet use.

Pontis Tower fast travel becomes available after an early quest mission completes. Until then, use standard Railjack launch flows from the star chart. Hunhow's vendor inventory also phases in across milestones rather than appearing fully stocked on day one.

Recommended Gear and Loadouts

The quest includes stealth segments, Railjack combat, boss fights with mechanics checks, and a cooking minigame that does not benefit from combat loadouts. Bring versatile gear rather than hyper-specialized setups. Stealth sections tolerate any frame with invisibility or noise reduction, but Smoke Screen or similar obscuring effects trivialize optional detection paths in Umbra capture point missions referenced in walkthrough guides.

For Ryoku and Vena boss encounters embedded in the quest, prepare sustained DPS plus status immunity or cleansing for blood bind effects. Jade Mockery segments reward precision weapons; bring a scoped rifle or strong secondary for headshot weakpoints. Railjack segments during the quest use loaner ships with predefined arsenals, so personal Railjack research is not required but Archwing familiarity helps during boarding actions.

Solo Quest Lock Explained

Constellations applies a 30–40 minute solo lock during critical story missions. While locked, squad invites are disabled and matchmaking routes you into private instances. The lock exists to preserve narrative pacing and prevent carry skipping of mechanics tutorials for dual swap, cooking, and boss phases. Duration varies slightly based on cutscene viewing versus skipping and player familiarity with stealth segments.

The lock is not a full quest lock for every stage—only specific missions flagged as story-critical. Side objectives in Uranus Proxima opened mid-quest remain squad-eligible unless another solo flag applies. If disconnected mid-mission, reloading typically restores solo instance state until the mission completes.

Plan a uninterrupted block before starting the longest mission. Notify squadmates you will be unavailable. Mobile players should disable battery saver modes that suspend the client during long cinematics.

Common Blockers and Fixes

Players report several recurring blockers that are not bugs but confusion points. Missing Jade Shadows completion is the most common: verify codex checkmarks. Another is attempting to launch Uranus Proxima before the quest unlocks the node—star chart tooltips clarify order. Railjack players without Archwing launchers should complete Archwing quest chains; boarding actions still require Archwing deployment even on loaner ships.

Codex spoiler settings hiding quest hints can make cooking objectives opaque. Re-enable hints or consult the cooking puzzle guide for Orion spice plus vegetable and Sirius sugar plus meat combinations. If Ordis dialogue fails to trigger, relog in your orbiter and re-open the quest from the codex rather than navigation alone.

Support tickets are warranted for true hard locks—objective markers cycling without progress, infinite loading on Pontis Tower entry, or lost quest items. Include platform, quest stage screenshot, and last completed objective text.

New players sometimes underestimate Archwing energy during boarding transitions between Railjack exterior and interior objectives. Equip Archwing mods that boost energy pool or regeneration before long sessions. Operator mode is disabled during specific solo-lock missions; plan accordingly if you rely on operator healing.

Account-wide quest flags mean deleting and reinstalling the client never skips prerequisites. Only support-assisted quest resets change eligibility, and resets may remove rewards tied to earlier stages—avoid reset unless truly stuck.

Players with multiple accounts should verify each account independently completed Jade Shadows; family shared-console accounts sometimes confuse progress. Cross-save merges quest flags but cannot merge partial quest stages from different accounts.

Resource stockpiling before solo lock helps: craft additional healing items, ensure ammo mutation or pickup mods installed, and verify railjack launcher quest completion if previously skipped as optional content during new player experience simplification.

Double-check inbox quest mail after Jade Shadows; Constellations invitation triggers from mail interaction in some progress branches rather than automatic codex addition alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I start Constellations without finishing The New War?

No. The New War is mandatory. The game checks completion before the quest appears.

How long is the solo quest lock?

Expect roughly 30 to 40 minutes of consecutive solo-only missions during the critical story stretch. Exact duration depends on cutscenes and player pace.

Do I need a Railjack before starting?

No. The quest provides loaner ships and personal Railjack missions unlock later. You do need Archwing for boarding segments.

What if Constellations does not appear in my codex?

Confirm Jade Shadows is fully complete, then relog. If it still missing, verify you are not viewing an archived quest filter hiding active entries.

Is Mastery Rank 10+ required?

Not explicitly for quest acceptance, but under-geared accounts struggle in boss and Railjack segments. Upgrade mods before the solo lock stretch.
